Why You Should Bond Before Baby Comes

A babymoon is a special vacation that many parents-to-be decide to enjoy before the birth of their baby. Such a vacation can provide a bridge between the stress and frantic nature of preparing for the baby and the stress that is to come once the baby has arrived!

Not all couples decide to take the same type of babymoon. Nor do all couples decide to take it at the same time. The two of you must decide what is best for you based on your schedule, your budget and the due date for your baby. A pre-baby getaway can be a week-long trip away from home, a weekend jaunt, or, if you are on a tight budget, it might be a night away at a nearby hotel. The point is to enjoy some couple time and some romance before your baby enters your universe!

Timing is important when it comes to a babymoon. Consult your pregnancy calendar and let that be a guide for you to help you decide when the most appropriate month and week would be to venture away for a little while. Typically most couples take this special trip during the second trimester (13 to 27 weeks or 3 to 7 months).

The second trimester is an ideal time for most couples because the mother-to-be is finished with morning sickness and is more comfortable and full of energy then she will be once she reaches her last trimester. However, if you are not able to take your vacation until the third trimester (28 to 42 weeks) then make sure you have adequate travel health insurance when you do go. If you wish to fly then make sure that your doctor will give you permission to do so.

A babymoon offers you and your spouse the opportunity to enjoy some pre-infant time together. You can focus on the two of you and your relationship. This also gives you some down time or free time away from the stress that awaits you at home in order to prepare and plan for becoming parents.

Whether you decide to take a trip by air, train, or car, the important thing is that you focus on your love for each other. Choose a destination that will offer you comfort and plenty of rest and relaxation as opposed to one that offers adventure. Pre-baby time is not the time to try something bold or daring!

As far as what you can do on your special vacation, this is entirely up to your personal interests and tastes. Talking about what is to come and dreaming together as well as being nervous together can be a way to bond as aspiring parents. Relaxing is always a popular choice, whatever relaxing means to you. For some people it may mean sitting next to a pool or lounging on the beach, while for others it may mean having a couple’s massage or staying in bed until noon. Shopping and sightseeing are also popular ways to enjoy your last hoorah before your newborn baby comes into your lives!
